When we walked into this project, we were greeted by a unique home-a lovely 3 acre lot with mountain views graced with a dated, funky split-level home that boasted impractical spaces and a kitchen and living room starkly walled-off. There was also an unnecessarily large scale den, limited bedrooms, and some very bland finishes. Oh, and a whole lot of carpet!
The design journey began with the client expressing his vision for a sleek, modern vibe. We uncovered through continued discussion that he also loves mixing colors and bold patterns and was dreaming of a quaint country-house vibe. We found a way to blend both styles and the finished product is rich with color, character, and antique treasures all with an elegant, modern twist. We began with space planning and worked in an additional bedroom and bathroom, improving the hosting capabilities. We knocked that damn wall down in the kitchen and opened the space up to an airy great room. Additional windows were added to increase natural lighting and take advantage of the gorgeous views. We even snagged a bit of space from the garage for a moody lounge that doubles as an extra guest room.
From the moment you walk into the warm, stone-walled entry with a barrel vault plaster ceiling and herringbone floor tile, you know you're in for a treat. The finishes in the kitchen are a VIBE. A stunning statement marble in cream, charcoal, and gold hues, demure white oak cabinetry, and a show-stopping custom steel and glass pantry. For the primary bedroom, we went big on a statement headboard and wallpapered the whole room. We added a cozy fireplace and sitting area and transformed the ensuite bathroom into a spa-like retreat. The remaining spaces feature handmade tile, intriguing lighting, and a blend of custom and lovingly curated antique furnishings. Before and after photos are below-- enjoy the journey!
